Miscreants had set fire to the wastes and discards from nearby companies at Arasur Piruvu at Avinashi Road today. The dark fumes rose covered the air, drastically reducing visibility on national highway NH47. Fire service personnel stepped in after they were informed by vehicle drivers.

Local residents complained that companies dump wastes on the roadsides and set fire to them at night. Smoke from the fumes are causing breathing disorders in children and senior citizens.

They have asked the district administration to take stern action against the companies that indulge in this.
