Kochi: Kerala High Court has directed police to provide security to a family facing threat from an alleged fundamentalist who had married a girl from the family belonging to another religion.

The 24-year-old woman married Anees of Pariyaram in north Kerala and lived with him for some time. Later, she left him to join her parents after she got suspicious about his intentions. She had got feelers that her husband in association with a religious outfit was planning to send her to Syria.

After the woman reunited with her family and refused to go back to her husband, he moved a court in Payyannur seeking her custody.

When the magistrate’s court issued summons to the woman and her family to appear before the court, they approached the High Court to explain their inability to do so citing security reasons.

After this, the court directed the Director General of Police to provide security to the family and submit a report in the matter.

The High Court also cancelled the warrant issued by the magistrate court.
