Bengaluru: How often do you get up groggy, confused and tired after a full night’s sleep? How often does a dream chase you, leaving you helpless? If you are also trying to decipher your dream, then look out for a dream interpreter who will decode the language of dreams for you. A symbol can invoke a feeling or an idea and often has a much more profound and deeper meaning than any one word can convey. “ I would often dream about a few symbols when I was a child. It was hard for me to open up about my dreams. I would go online, read up Dream Bible to interpret it. My dreams have constantly changed with my year; which is the most natural thing. Later, I would have this recurring dream about a chase. It was then I sought to decode it with the help of a professional,” says Meenakshi Rawat, a resident of Bangalore.

In many ancient societies, such as those of Egypt and Greece, dreaming was considered a supernatural communication or a means of divine intervention, whose message could be interpreted by people with these associated spiritual powers. But in modern times, various schools of psychology have offered theories about the meaning and purpose of dreams. “Interpreting dreams can be different for all the people on the basis of their lifestyle, character. Each dream has a different meaning for different people,” says Dr Madhu Kotiya, Psychologist and one among India’s only three paranormal experts.

The ability to interpret dreams is a powerful tool. In analyzing your dreams, you can learn about your deepest secrets and hidden feelings. “Interpreting dreams is paranormal science. It is all from our subconscious mind, the dreams we see are the thoughts we have in back of our minds, it could be insecurities, it could low self confidence etc that lead to such dreams,” says Dr Kotiya. It isn’t uncommon for people to have one dream dominating a phase of their life. And while analysing it, every detail should be considered important because each symbol represents a feeling, a mood, a memory or something from your unconscious. “It is important to closely look at the characters, animals, objects, places, emotions, and even color and numbers that are depicted in your dreams. Even the most trivial symbol is significant and trying to reveal something to you,” says Aurobindo Mukherjee, Astrologer. What are the most common dreams? “ The most common dreams are :someone is running after us, we are falling from height, we are packing stuff, some animal is after us, we are getting late,we are not able to complete a task,” Dr Kotia lists down. But there are some dreams that keep coming back, they don’t leave us. “If you see repeated dreams then, it might have some connection with your past – life, you should consult a past life regression therapist,” Dr Kotiya signs off.
