Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) hosted its Graduation Ceremony on April 27- 28 for the students of the 2018 batch. A total of 1547 students from 14 undergraduate and 15 postgraduate programmes received their degree, with 106 students securing first class with distinction and 1245 students securing first class.

KCT is an institution of excellence in technical education with 35 years of illustrious service to the students, many of whom are thriving as leaders and contributors to development, across the world. Parents and families of the graduates were present at the Graduation Ceremony.

The dignitaries present for the first session of ceremony on 27 April were the Chief Guest, Mr Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder and CEO, Matrimony.com, Mr Balasubramaniam, Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions, Mr Shankar Vanavarayar, Joint Correspondent, Kumaraguru Institutions, Dr. J. Senthil, Principal, KCT and Heads of Academic departments.

The first session commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Joint Correspondent, Mr Shankar Vanavarayar. Dr. J Senthil, the Principal of KCT listed the achievements of the faculty, students and college in 2018=2019. The college, he said, was for four consecutive years among the 100 technical colleges in NIRF ranking in the areas of research, consultancy and grants received from Government and external agencies.

He added that 510 research papers were published in Scopus Indexed journals, 10 student projects were granted from TNSCST and 4 and 8 patents were filed and published respectively. The Principal in his report also stated that the academic community of KCT is working towards acquiring the NBA accreditation for all UG programmes by 2019 while 5 UG programmes are currently NBA accredited. The Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. N. Ram Sundram, introduced and welcomed the Chief Guest.

The Chief Guest of the morning session Mr Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder and CEO, Matrimony.com in his address told the young graduates that the four important stepping stones to success were: good physical health, mental health, intellectual capacity building and spiritual alignment. With these in place, progress becomes a cake walk, he said. He also asked them to take responsibility for their success and always keep in mind their family, friends and society. This was followed by the conferment of the degrees.

The Chief Guest of the afternoon session Mr M. Ponnuswami, Chairman and Managing Director, Pon Pure Chemicals Group, spoke about his success mantras that helped him and his companies grow. Coming from a humble farming community, he was the first graduate in his family. His success mantras included integrity, maintaining goodwill, gratefulness and decentralization within the organization. He urged the students to be never pessimistic as India was a land of opportunities.

The Chief Guest for the third session will be Mr Sanjay Jaju IAS, Joint. Secretary, Department of Defense Production, , Government of India, who will deliver the graduation address and confer the Degrees.
