The Kongunadu Jananayaka Katchi (KJK), an NDA ally in Tamil Nadu, extended its support to the bandh called by various farmers’ association on Tuesday to protest against Karnataka for refusing to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

“Cauvery is the lifeline of Tamil Nadu, particularly eight districts in the western region (Kongu region), both for drinking and irrigation purposes. The refusal by Karnataka to release of water, is against the tribunal verdict, KJK convener,” G.K. Nagaraj said in a statement.

In view of the seriousness of the issue, thousands of KJK workers would campaign for the proposed bandh, he said.

The party also welcomed the DMK’s decision to organise a demonstration in Coimbatore on September 3 in protest against Kerala for its proposed construction of a dam across Siruvani.
