Mallesseri Beedi Works which established an orchestra way back in 1974 by its founder member N. Narayanan is still going strong. Mallesseri Orchestra is one of the leading and well known music troupes in Coimbatore staging many performances. At present the orchestra is being managed by N. Srinivasan alias Babu who is also the Managing Trustee of CMS Institutions.

This troupe has the unique distinction of having staged more than a 1,000 programmes, not only in and around Tamil Nadu, but also in the neighbouring states of Kerala, Karnataka, etc. Well experienced musicians form part of this prestigious troupe and they have performed with almost all the leading playback singers of the film industry.

An added feather to its cap is the Mallesseri School of Music started in 2010 which has been instrumental in nurturing and training young talents in various fields of music like guitar, drums, violin, vocal, etc. Rajabarathi is the manager of this big troupe for about 20 years and he has worked hard to spread the name and glory of Mallesseri.

Mallisseri Orchestra, one of the oldest orchestra companies of South India, started its humble beginnings with 20 members. Commencing its journey with the sole aim of spreading the essence of music in South India, the founder of Mallesseri Beedi Works, N. Narayanan initiated this venture in Coimbatore. The family tradition is now being carried forward by his son, N. Srinivasan.

The team has grown over the years rendering melodies both within and outside the country in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. This orchestra has the honour of having hosted legendary singers P. Suseela, Malaysia Vasudevan and drums Sivamani.

Moving into their 25th year, the team has started the Mallisseri School of Music, under the guidance of Raja Bharathi to train young minds in the fields of music. Proficient tutors, most of whom are members of the orchestra team, impart training to the students.

The entire troupe is indebted to people like Kannur K.V. Valsaraj, K.V. Rajan and Velayudham, who toiled for the success and popularity of the band. The troupe cannot forget the contribution of musicians Kalai Selvan, who is no more, and Kumarasamy, who lent their beautiful voices to entertain the masses and were partly responsible for the thriving growth of the troupe.
