Udhagamandalam:: The three-day reunion of Madras Regiment began yesterday at Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington near here. The get-together is to reinforce the commitment to preserve the heritage and contribute to the growth of the regiment.
All veterans, serving officers, ex-servicemen and their families and children participated in a heritage walk from Srinagesh Barracks to Thangaraj Stadium and undertook tree-plantation programme on the opening day.
A special function was organised at the Sri Murugan Temple of the centre where all sought blessings and in the evening there was the famous Military Band at the Srinagesh Barracks, an official statement said.
The second day started with solemn and impressive wreath-laying parade at MRC War Memorial.
Colonel of the Regiment, Lt Gen Rajeev Chopra and many other senior serving officers and veterans laid the wreath for the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice. A Post War Memorial Service and a special Sainik Sammelan were held at Srinagesh Barracks which was presided over by the Colonel.
