Residents of Vadavalli handed over to police a 30-year-old man who had broken open a grocery store and stocked up the stolen property in his house near at Vadavalli here on Wednesday.

According to police, S. Jayakumar (39) was reportedly running a grocery store at Kurumbapalayam near Vedapatty. When he went to open his shop in the morning on Wednesday, he had found his shop open and on further investigation, he found that someone had stolen grocery items worth Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 1,300 in cash from his shop.

Based on a tip given by villagers, Jayakumar had reportedly searched for the goods at the house of R. Ramesh (30), a native of Dindigul and now residing in the locality.

After finding the goods, the villagers and Jayakumar handed over Ramesh to the Vadavalli police.
