Maratha king Serfoji honoured on 239th birth anniversary

Thanjavur: Rich tributes were paid to Maratha King Serfoji II, architect of the Saraswati Mahal Library, in Thanjavur, on the occasion of his 239th birth anniversary today.

Collector A. Annadurai garlanded the statue of King Serfoji at the palace complex in the morning.

District Revenue Officer P Chandrasekaran, in his presidential address, paid rich tributes to the Maratha King. He also released seven books published by the library and 60 reprinted books.

Earlier, Saraswati Mahal Library’s administrative officer A. Poongodhai welcomed the gathering. The library’s lifetime member and the current head of the Maratha Royal Family of Thanjavur, Babaji Rajah Bhonsle, delivered a special address. Librarian Sudarshan proposed a vote of thanks.
