Coimbatore : DMK on Wednesday accused Tamil Nadu Government of remaining silent over the report with regard to Kerala getting clearance to construct a dam below the Mullaperiyar one, which would spell disaster to Tamil Nadu.
On media reports about Kerala getting clearance to undertake a study on a new dam at Mullaperiyar, DMK treasurer Durai Murugan told reporters at City Airport that he had come to know about this from newspapers.
“if Kerala was allowed to construct a dam, it would spell disaster and be dangerous to Tamil Nadu,” he said, accusing the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, under whom the department functions, of remaining silent on the issue.
Durai Murugan, here to participate in the Public Accounts Committee meeting as chairman, said that despite the problems like devastating floods and the recent Sabarimala issue, Kerala always managed to achieve what it required for its development.
The Centre, which refused permission to Tamil Nadu to construct a baby dam, had given environmental clearance to Kerala to construct a dam below the Mullaiperiya dam, he claimed.
Durai Murugan was evasive to a question on the report of audio clip reportedly involving State Minister Jayakumar.
