New equipment has been inaugurated on Tuesday at the pediatrics department of the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH), which would help treat infants with stomach-related disorders.
Inaugurating the Gastro-duodenoscope, B. Ashokan, the Medical Superintendent of CMCH, said that the equipment will be used to treat infants with stomach and intestinal disorders. “Usually we send such patients to private hospitals as we did not have the equipment and the treatment would cost more than Rs.40 to 60 thousand. But now, the treatment cost will be much lower,” he said.
He further added that the instrument, which cost Rs.60 lakhs, is the first such equipment introduced in a government hospital in Coimbatore, and a second of its kind in Tamil Nadu.
“Only private hospitals have such facilities and it is good that the government hospitals too now have such equipment. This will improve the quality of treatment provided here,” he added.
