The case was that Rajendraprasad, working as assistant engineer in the electricity board in nearby Coonoor, had accepted Rs 1,000 as bribe to provide an electricity connection to a newly constructed building in 2003.

The contractor, Sebastian, on the advice of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, gave marked notes to the official, who was caught red-handed while accepting them.

The case was going in the sub-court here for the last 13 years and judge M Thangavelu found Rajendraprasad, now an assistant executive engineer, guilty and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for one year.
