One year imprisonment to senior EB official in bribery case

Ooty: After a long, 13-year trial, an official of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was today sentenced to undergo one year imprisonment for taking bribe in exchange for an official favour in 2003.

The case was that Rajendraprasad, working as assistant engineer in the electricity board in nearby Coonoor, had accepted Rs 1,000 as bribe to provide an electricity connection to a newly constructed building in 2003.

The contractor, Sebastian, on the advice of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption, gave marked notes to the official, who was caught red-handed while accepting them.

The case was going in the sub-court here for the last 13 years and judge M Thangavelu found Rajendraprasad, now an assistant executive engineer, guilty and sentenced him to undergo imprisonment for one year.
