Open check to clear doubts among the public: Collector

Coimbatore : The checking in the open of the container was done only to clear the doubts in the minds of the general public, the district collector, K Rajamani Tuesday said.

As the public, since last night was curious about the container and the materials inside, the administration, along with the officials from Election, IT, Customs and revenue departments opened the container on the collectorate premises, Rajamani told reporters here.

Considering the requests from various sectors, the election department was asked to expedite the checking process and hand over the materials with proper documents without any delay, he said.

As for the seizures so far, Rs 9.06 crore were seized and Rs 2.75 crore returned to the owners after they provided valid documents, he said,.

Similarly, of the 153 kg gold and silver ornaments seized, documents for only one kg gold were submitted and the remaining was still with the treasury, Rajamani said.
