One year after her death, Jayalalitaa’s hospitalisation and treatment has created another controversy after Apollo Hospital records, revealed by a private television channel, sparked off yet another round of attack by opposition parties.

Even the BJP, that was perceived as having soft corner for the AIADMK government, on Thursday launched a direct attack against the medical establishment that allowed Jayalalithaa’s health to deteriorate to such an extent before she had to be rushed to hospital in an unconscious state.

A private television channel quoted hospital Patient Care report, prepared at the time of admission, to say that Jayalalithaa’s health condition was precarious, her BP and sugar levels very high and she was having severe problem of breathlessness.

Why were medical arrangements not done at her residence itself, questioned the opposition leaders, including the BJP after it was revealed that her sugar level was 508 mg and BP at 140/70.

BJP TN chief Tamilisai Soundarrajan questioned as to who was treating Madam Jayalalithaa till the point she had to be admitted to the hospital and why was her parameters not monitored. Besides, why an ambulance was not parked at her residence itself, she questioned as summoning an ambulance would have cost precious time.

DMK working president MK Stalin said that only a CBI probe would unravel the truth as lot of bigwigs, including central ministers, state governors and a lot of people had to be questioned. It cannot be accomplished by a single retired judge, Stalin said without casting aspersions on the judge.

The magnitude of the job was so high that it cannot be left to one person to accomplish, Stalin said reiterating his previous demand for a CBI probe adding that union ministers, AIIMS doctors, governor C Vidyasagar Rao and the doctor from London had to be questioned.

TNCC chief S Thirunavukkarasar also echoed similar sentiments and said that all the top officials with whom the chief minster reportedly held meetings inside her hotel room must also be questioned. VCK leader Thol Thirumavalanan said that Jayalalithaa’s death was shrouded in mystery but at that time every AIADMK leader was parroting the line as to how well she was recovering.

The central government had a lot to answer on this issue, the VCK leader said.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday night framed the terms of reference for the single judge probe committee and asked it to submit its report within three months. The probe committee will also examine the circumstances leading to Amma’s hospitalisation.

Jayalalithaa was brought to the Apollo Hospital a little after 10 p.m. and when she was brought, she was suffering from breathlessness and had high BP and sugar levels. She was immediately admitted to the ICU of the Apollo Hospital. But the hospital said she was admitted for dehydration and fever.
