Oscar will help create awareness on menstruation: Muruganandam

Coimbatore : The city-based Arunachala Muruganandam, on whom the Oscar winning best documentary short ‘Period End of Sentence’ was based, expressed surprise for getting the recognition at International Level.

” I am surprised that the documentary won the hearts. But I am not not getting carried away,”Muruganandam told reporters, when sought for his reaction.

This (menstruation) was a subject where many afraid to lay hands because of taboos, particularly in the rural area, he said.

Now this has won the award and recognition, it will help to create more awareness on the issue, Muruganandam, a Padmashree recipient said.

Murugananda has revolutionised the system of making napkins by using simple machine, which provided lakhs of women access to hygiene and job opportunities.
