Members of the Road Transport wing of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) staged a hunger strike on Tuesday demanding the cancellation of toll fee collected at various toll gates across the State.
Members alleged that personnel at tollgates were extracting a fee higher than the stipulated one. They also asked for a reduction in tax for 21-seater tourist vehicles, and petrol and diesel vehicles.
They requested that public badges be provided to all drivers without further delay as promised by Chief Minister Jayalalithaa during her election campaign in 2011.
Around 150 members of the organization participated in the hunger strike.
