Angered by the constant quarry activities, residents of Pachapalayam village near Madukkarai took to the streets, seeking a ban on quarrying in the area.

Continuous quarrying activities have led to cracks in the buildings. The local residents had given multiple representations in the past to the district administration seeking the government’s intervention to ban quarries in the area, but nothing was done.

Nearly 200 residents of the area squatted on the road to protest, leading to traffic disruption. The police were brought in to pacify them
