PSG College Hosts National Short Film Festival Pathivugal

The Department of Visual Communication and Electronic Media of PSG College of Arts and Science organised the 20th edition of the national-level short film festival “Pathivugal 2026” at the GRD Auditorium on Thursday, bringing together young filmmakers, students and cinema enthusiasts from across the country.
The festival served as a vibrant platform for budding filmmakers to showcase their creativity and exchange ideas on contemporary cinema and visual storytelling.
The event was held under the guidance of Secretary T.Kannaian and Principal M. Jayanthi. Vice Principals L. Uthira and M.Uma Rani also extended their support for the successful conduct of the festival.Film director Ashwin Chandrasekar attended the festival as the chief guest.A Coimbatore native raised in Chennai,he earlier worked as an assistant and associate director under filmmaker Pandiraj before making his debut with Couple Friendly, which gained attention for its portrayal of modern relationships.
Independent filmmaker Jinovy, known for his work in independent and neo-noir cinema, also participated in the programme. His debut feature Alpha Adimai earned recognition in the indie film circuit.
Cinematographer T.S.Krishnasekhar interacted with students and highlighted the importance of visual storytelling. His work in V1 Murder Case was widely appreciated, while House Owner, which he shot, was selected for the Indian Panorama section at the International Film Festival of India.
A total of 19 short films from various institutions across the country were screened during the festival. The entries included We Heard The World Looks Beautiful from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune;
The Act short film from Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Noida, Verbantham from Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore; Sweet Dreams from JD Education and Training, Coimbatore; Soppu Jaaman from ICAT Design and Media College; Sivappu from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore; Paradise from KG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore; Home Sweet Home from Loyola Institute of Vocational Education, Chennai; Ranganayaka from Jain Deemed-to-be University, Bengaluru; Ganniya Kalaingan from Hindusthan College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore; and Artist from Gupta College of Design, Salem.
Students, aspiring filmmakers and media enthusiasts from several institutions participated in the festival.
The event was organised by Dr. Radha Guruswamy, Head of the Department of Visual Communication, PSG College of Arts and Science.
