Seeking to remove Devendrakula Velalar community from Scheduled Caste category and include it in Most Backward Class (MBC) list, Puthiya Tamizhkam will hold a massive demonstration in Chennai on October six.
As the SC tag has become the biggest obstacle for the progress of the population in every sectors like education, industry and removal from the scheduled list will help them to come up in society, Puthiya Tamizhakam founder president, Dr K Krishnasamy told reporters here today.
About five lakh people from the community will take out a march to Secretariat, the seat of power in Chennai on that day, before converging into a rally on that day, Krishnasamy said.
The decision to this effect was taken at the party’s State High level committee here, in which 150 functionaries participated, he said
Stating that the demand to not include Devenrdrakula Velalar in the SC list was way back during British period, he said that the successive governments both at the Centre and States also neglected it independence, resulting in backwardness of the community.
The classification was based on the opinion given by a few persons for their own vested interests because of which nearly two crore people across the world are suffering, Krishnasamy said.
