Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research observed Rose Day on September 22 with those living with cancer. Handmade cards, gifts and roses were given to cancer patients on Rose Day.
The day is observed in memory of 12-year old Melinda Rose from Canada, who was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumour, a rare form of bone cancer. Melinda lived with cancer only for six months, yet throughout her time she successfully cheered other cancer patients and their caregivers with her letters, poems, and emails.
Rose day is observed to inspire all cancer patients that they too can face the disease with strong willpower and spirit. Awareness events are also organized on Rose day on being cautious about cancer.
