More than 50 teachers and non-teaching staff of the Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School received certificates of appreciation from the Rotary Club of Coimbatore IKON, for their meritorious service.

Until now, the teachers lauded the girls for their performances in academics and extra-curricular activities. For a change, this time the students applauded when their teachers were honoured by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore IKON. Also among the honourees were those in-charge of housekeeping, the ones who prepared the noon meals at this school, and the admin staff.

The teaching and non-teaching staff were called one after the other, and the students cheered them all.

“Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5, and International Literacy Day is observed on September 8. We chose to host this event between these two days,” Rtn. N. Karthikeyan, Project Coordinator, Rotary Club of Coimbatore IKON said. This is the third year that the club is recognizing teachers of a city-based school as a part of the Teachers Day celebrations.

The Rotary Club of Coimbatore IKON had previously implemented several projects for the benefit of the students of the Corporation Girls Higher Secondary School. The club had donated drinking water coolers to the school. One classroom in the school has also been converted into a SMART classroom.

Rotary Club of Coimbatore IKON, constituted in 2012, currently has about 35 members.
