Chennai: Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao has directed that he be addressed hereafter as “Honourable Governor” or by the Tamil equivalent “Maanbumigu Aalunar”, on ceremonial occasions and in official communications.

A press release from the Raj Bhavan here said, “The present practice of using the salutation ‘His Excellency the Governor’ or the Tamil equivalent ‘Methagu Aalunar’ may be discontinued…. The salutation ‘His Excellency’ will continue to be used in interactions with foreign dignitaries.”
