Veterinarians are continuing the treatment to an ailing female elephant, which fell unconscious last evening at Periya Thadagam on the outskrits.
The elephant was given nearly 20 bottles of glucose mixed with medicines to boost its health. However, the 30-year-old animal was still was not able to stand up, forest department sources said.
However, its condition is stable, as doctors—Manoharan and Jayanthi—are providing necessary treatment to revive it. Besides medicines, the animal is given sugarcane, rice, banana, jaggery and apple, and water is being sprayed all over the body to prevent dehydration.
Though the veterinarians were not able to ascertain the real cause of the sudden sickness, it is suspected that the animal is suffering from a stomach ailment, as it has not had a bowel movement in the last two days.
