Political parties in the district on Thursday criticised the City Corporation for carrying out survey in order to increase the property tax in the new extensions in the old wards and also extended wards of the Corporation.
In its executive committee meeting, CPI-M condemned the action of the special officer in this regard that too in the absence of elected
councillors, which the party said “will lead to corruption, as the officials may threaten the owners of demolition in the pretext deviation and lesser valuation”.
The party also wanted to appoint a qualified person as CEO of Smart City projects, instead of the present appointment, which also received flak from almost all political parties and organisations.
Meanwhile, the district unit of the Congress too submitted a memorandum to the administration on the survey being conducted.
Both the parties said that the Corporation has failed to provide basic amenities such as drinking water, road, drainage and street facilities to extended areas.
