One of Coimbatore’s leading super speciality eyehospitals,The Eye Foundation at R.S.Puram has undergone a significant expansionto provide its services to a larger number of patients.
Dr.Ramamurthy, Chairman and Managing Director of The EyeFoundation chaired a press conference on Friday to announce the developmentsmade through this expansion.
“We have added a new block adjacent to our old one withGround + 5 floors (60,000 sq.ft) and together with the existing block (70,000sq.ft) we now have more than 1.2 lakh sq.ft. space. This is a large tertiarycare eye center that can easily handle 1200-1300 patients per day. Previouslyit was 800+ per day,” Dr.Ramamurthy said.
The 1st and 2nd floor both offer cataract, cornea serviceswhile the 2nd also offers oculoplasty (an ophthalmic plastic surgery related tothe eye and its surrounding structures). The 3rd floor offers refractive andlasik care and a Lasik Operation Theatre. The 4th floor houses a dedicatedpediatric ophthalmology center (with 4 dedicated pediatric ophthalmologists)besides neuro, ophthalmology and glaucoma and a myopia clinic. Besides this achildren’s play area is also included in this floor. The 5th floor offersdedicated retina care and laser procedures.
The expanded facility features enhanced waiting areas, 40consultation rooms, 60 optometry cubicles, 10 state of the art operationtheaters (with 3 dedicated to cataract), 15 investigation rooms and ophthalmiclabs, 40 executive inpatient rooms (inpatient services can be availed at theexisting block. 100 patients can avail the service at a time)., comfortable daycare units, 4 optical outlets and pharmacy units and a dedicate multi-level carparking that can provide space to park 120 cars. The campus has additionalparking facilities to park 200 two-wheelers.
Dr.Ramamurthy said that once patients reach the main atrium,a team of 8 receptionists would attend them immediately to hear about their eyecare requirement. If it is a general eye test and treatment they would be sentto the existing block and if they need special care, they would be directed tothe specific specialty floor. Each floor has the entire infrastructure neededfor the specialized care. This helps patient to get all the care they need inthe very same floor.
The Chairman underlined that the cost of care in this newblock will be the same fixed at the existing one. “Whatever we charged forprocedures earlier would be applicable here. Our goal is to reach more patientsthrough this expansion. At The Eye Foundation, cost is not a constraint. Weoffer free cataract surgeries to patients, at least 15 to patients per day viaRajalakshmi Nethralaya, the charitable wing of The Eye Foundation. Through ourown system and also with assistance from Rotary, we extend our care to theneedy.Our objective is that none should leave the hospital without gettingtreated,” he added.
The new block will be inaugurated on Sunday at 6 p.m. at aceremony scheduled to be held at Rajasthani Sangh in R.S.Puram. T.V.MohandasPai, Chairman of Aarin Capital Partners will be the Chief Guest. M.Krishnan,CMD, Sri Krishna Sweets, Dr.S.Rajasekaran, Chairman- Dept of OrthopedicSurgery, Ganga Hospital and Srinivasan Ravi, CMD, Craftsman Automation will bethe Guests of Honor.
