Coimbatore : Three members of a family, a couple and a daughter, were found dead after allegedly consuming poison in a private lodge, while another daughter is undergoing treatment in the Government Hospital in Salem.

The family–Vijayakumar, wife Anuradha and the daughters Ashika and Aarathi– was from Soolamedu in Chennai and financial burden was said to be the reason for the suicide, police said.

Noticing that the door of the room where the family stayed last night was not opened in the morning for long the lodge staff broke it open only to find the couple and a daughter lying dead, while Aarathi was struggling for life, police said.

Police, who rushed to the spot, shifted the bodies to the Government hospital for postmortem and admitted Aarathi there for treatment.

They found a bottle of soft drinks laced with poison and recovered a note purportedly written by Vijayakumar, stating that the they took this extreme step due to financial burden, poilice said.

Further investigations are on, they said.
