TMMK stages demonstration; Hindu Munnani workers arrested

More than 1400 members of the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhakam (TMMK) staged a demonstration in the city on the 23rd anniversary of the Babri Mosque demolition day. Abut 1,000 members of the Hindu Munnani, were arrested.

The TMMK workers assembled at the Red Cross Junction and raised slogans demanding that the Masjid be reconstructed at the site in Ayodhya. The nearly 1,000 workers of Hindu Munnani were arrested at Central Bus Stand when they sought the construction of Ram temple at the disputed site.

It was later clarified that the TMMK was given permission to stage a demonstration, while Munnani was not.
