Coimbatore : Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaath (TNTJ) on Friday demanded a CBI inquiry into the killing of police officer Subodh Kumar Singh in Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh.

The slain officer was promptly investigating the murder case of one Mohammed Salah and the killers wanted to finish him off before he could reach them, TNTJ secretary Abdul Karim told reporters here.

A similar conspiracy was adopted in the killing of Hemant Karkare, who was probing the Malegaon blast case, he noted.

Accusing the BJP of raising the disputed Babri Masjid-Ram temple issue only during election time, for gaining political advantage, Karim expressed confidence that Supreme Court would give its verdict based on evidence, which, he claimed was in favour of the Muslim community.

Jamaat was organising a one-day conference in Ulundurpet in Vizhupuram district on January 27 when it would highlight the need to shun various ills being followed by a section of the Muslim community like superstition, use of drugs and liquor, he said.

Karim said the Jamaat had distributed relief materials worth Rs 3 crore to Gaja cyclone-affected people.
