Coimbatore : As part of Kovai Vizha 2020, (Coimbatore Festival) a ‘Royal boat show’ was organised today at Kurichi tank, claimed to be first of its kind in the city.

INS Agrani commanding  officer commodore Ashok Rai flagged off the two-day Yacht boat show.

Coimbatore is the only City that has more than 25 tanks and lakes in and around, in order to avoid the tanks getting polluted by allowing sewage water inside. The Kovai Vizha team planned to create awareness on conserving the tanks in a novel and interesting manner, the Vizha Chairman  Supreja Venkat said.

The team finally took an unanimously decision to arrange for a Yacht boat show here, as the city has never witnesses such Royal boats in their life time before in Kurichi tank.

The tank was de-silted and tons of water hyacinth was removed with the help of
Chennai Yacht club, they also supported us in many ways bringing the boats from Cochin belong to Indian Navy and landing them in the tank.

2 Laser YR bhai, 2EP class,1 optimist, 1 wind surf boat, 1 individual Kiosk and safety rubber boat named Gemni was involved in rescue operation in case of untoward incident, Supreja said adding that some 24 international sailors have landed here for the show to cheer up and make the event a memorable one.
