Two students drown in Chitirai Chavadi check dam

Two teenaged students today drowned in a pond near a check dam in Chitirai Chavadi on the outskirts.

A five member group of boys, all identically aged 17 years and doing their plus-two, had gone to take bath in the dam, attached to Siruvani river. Unfortunately, Hariprasad and Sabari drowned, police said.

Shocked, the three others screamed for help, but before the locals could rush, both the boys went deep in to the pond, they said. On information, Fire and Rescue personnel and police rushed to the spot and managed to recover the body of Sabari.

Search is on to trace out the other body, which could have struck deep. The poor light in the area has also been tampering rescue operations , they said.
