Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Lakshmi inaugurated the Vacuum Assisted Biopsy System, a non invasive procedure for treating fibro adenomas in women, at the Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH).
Speaking on the occasion Nalla G. Palaniswami, chairman of KMCH said lesions or fibro adenomas, a lump in the breast, could be a cause of concern for women, even though it was non-cancerous . “These lesions are called a slipping mouse, because it easily escapes easy detection. They are caused due to hormonal imbalances,” he said.
“In Vacuum Assisted Biopsy system, the non-cancerous tumour is cut into small bits before it is sucked out with the help of a small needle leaving no scar and the procedure is performed under local anaesthesia. It is a day care procedure. This painless procedure allows women to lead a very normal life ,” said Dr. Rupa Renganathan, Consultant-Breast Imaging.
Dr. Thavamani D. Palaniswami, vice-chairman, KMCH, Dr. Mathew Cherian, head of radiology and several others were present.
