A total of 22 activists, including two women, belonging to Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, were arrested today, when they attempted to stage a demonstration in the city, protesting against the Centre’s notification banning the sale of cattle for slaughter.

The activists raised slogans against the Centre and demanded its immediate withdrawal, police said.

Though a few workers brought a portrait of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for burning, they failed to do so, police said, adding all of them were arrested and released in the evening.

Meanwhile, a group of Hindu Makkal Katchi activists today arrived at the Central Post officer to send parcels containing pork, addressed to Dravida Kazhakam leader, K Veeramani.
