Coimbatore, , March 6, 2026 —Walmart Marketplace, in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), hosted the Walmart Growth Summit: India Seller Day at Le Meridien, Coimbatore. The event aimed to empower small and medium exporters with practical insights, best practices for cross-border trade, and networking opportunities to help them access international markets and expand their global footprint.

Coimbatore, known for its robust MSME base and thriving textile industry across the Kongu belt, including Tiruppur and Karur, is a key hub for export-driven businesses. With over 35.3 lakh MSMEs and ₹45,000 crore in annual apparel and home textile exports—categories central to Walmart Marketplace—the summit focused on raising awareness among regional sellers about the global opportunities available through the platform.

The event was a significant milestone aligned with the Government of India’s Districts as Export Hubs initiative, offering exporters practical guidance on cross-border compliance, onboarding, logistics, and opportunities in the U.S. market.

Senior leaders attending the event emphasized the importance of enabling district-level exporters to participate in global eCommerce, noting that the Walmart Marketplace is pivotal to equipping MSMEs with the tools and knowledge to thrive in international trade.
Anand Mohan Mishra, Joint DGFT, Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry said, “Facilitating district-level exporters’ participation in global eCommerce is vital to expanding India’s export base. Structured export-readiness initiatives—including those offered by platforms like Walmart Marketplace—are instrumental in equipping MSMEs with the skills and resources they need to compete internationally. These efforts are critical to strengthening India’s presence in global trade and empowering local businesses to thrive on the world stage.”

P Gopalakrishnan, Regional Chairman, Federation of Indian Export Organizations (FIEO), (Southern Region), President, Karur Textile Manufacturer Exporters Association (KTMEA) said, “As global trade becomes ever more digital, it’s vital for our MSMEs to leverage platforms that open doors to international markets. We value Walmart Marketplace’s initiative to connect with exporters in Coimbatore and raise awareness about the vast opportunities in cross-border eCommerce. With Coimbatore’s robust manufacturing and export ecosystem—especially in textiles—there is tremendous potential for MSMEs to scale sustainably and expand their global footprint.”

Walmart , India Cross Border Trade Group Director Ashin Mathew, said, “Coimbatore stands out as one of India’s most vibrant textile and manufacturing hubs. With the Walmart Growth Summit, our goal is to provide exporters with clear, actionable steps to scale their businesses on Walmart Marketplace. By sharing cross-border compliance guidance, operational know-how, and valuable category insights, we’re committed to helping exporters from Tamil Nadu broaden their global reach, build sustainable businesses, and play a meaningful role in driving India’s export growth.”

The summit highlighted success stories from Tamil Nadu entrepreneurs who have already leveraged Walmart Marketplace to expand globally. Brands like Purple Essences and Xabitat showcased their impressive growth. Purple Essences, founded in 2021, built a customer base across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Starting with just 30 SKUs in its bath and kitchen category, the brand has expanded its assortment by over 450%, achieving 160% overall sales growth and 460% growth in Walmart Fulfillment Services sales in FY26. Xabitat, launched in 2024 by Vtail Commerce, demonstrated the potential for niche exporters to scale globally, achieving 48% sales growth in FY26 through strategic planning and marketplace execution.

The event drew strong interest from Tamil Nadu’s exporter community, with numerous participants—including textile manufacturers, engineering goods exporters, home textile producers, and first-time exporters—exploring onboarding opportunities on Walmart Marketplace. The summit also featured insights into the Walmart Vriddhi Supplier Development program, which supports MSMEs in building business readiness including exports and driving growth.
