A 25-year-old woman had allegedly committed suicide by setting herself ablaze in her apartment in Puliyakulam.

The woman, Jothimani, was married and had two children. The family was living in an apartment allocated by the Slum Clearance Board. Her husband and son had gone to the market and the daughter was playing in the neighbourhood when Jothimani immolated herself.

Neighbours heard the screams and broke open the door to rescue her. But, by then Jothimani had died. The cause for the suicide was not yet known. Police have sent the body for post mortem examinations.
