A resident of Thoppampatti poisoned to death her mentally-challenged son before killing herself in Thudiyalur last night.

According to police, Murugeswari, wife of Kathir Pandian, a call-taxi driver, had been disturbed for quite sometime over the condition of her seven-year-old son.

In order to relieve herself from the mental agony, she reportedly gave poison to her son Hari Sabarish before consuming it. She promptly cleaned her son’s mouth, police said.

When Kathir returned home, he found his son vomitting. When questioned, Murugeswari said that she had given him medicine for fever and cold.

Kathir grew suspicious this morning when his wife and son didn’t get for a long time. He rushed them to the Government Hospital here when he noticed froth oozing out of their mouth. However, doctors declared them brought dead.
