A 24-year-old mother gave a new lease of life to five others after her vital organs were harvested for donation. She was declared brain dead following a road accident.

Pavithra, mother of a 3-month-old, met with an accident, when she was travelling with her husband and baby on a two-wheeler on October 2. She was immediately rushed to Sri Ramakrishna Hospital here. She was in coma and was declared brain dead due to traumatic brain injury, a hospital release said.

After confirming this, a panel of doctors harvested the organs with the consent of her husband and relatives.

While one of her kidneys was donated to a patient at this hospital, the other kidney and a liver were sent to two other private hospitals. Her cornea has been donated to Sankara Eye Hospital.
