Youth gets seven years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting minor girl

Thanjavur: The Mahila Fast Track Court here today sentenced a lecherous youth to seven years’ imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl in Saliyamangalam area some two and a half years ago.

The 19-year-old Vijayanarayanan, resident of Thoppu Theru in Saliyamangalam, lured a nine-year-old girl of the same area by offering her Rs 10, took her to a hiding place and sexually assaulted her on June 11, 2014.

Based on a complaint, Ammapettai police registered a case under section 366 (abducting or inducing a woman to compel her marriage) of IPC and section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 and arrested Vijayanarayanan.

The trial of the case was conducted at the Mahila Fast Track Court. The judge who heard the case found Vijayanarayanan guilty of the charges. Pronouncing his verdict the judge today sentenced Vijayanarayanan to seven years’ imprisonment besides slapping a fine of Rs 1,000.
