Thanjavur: A young man committed suicide by consuming poison in Madukkur union today after allegedly leaving a suicide note saying that he had resorted to this extreme step unable to bear the grief following the demise of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

This is perhaps the first suicide case that can be directly connected to the death of the former CM going by the suicide note. The AIADMK party has announced that 597 have died out of grief following the demise of Jayalalithaa and has reportedly handed over Rs 3 lakh per family.

The 21-year-old Aadhi Eswaran, son of Dharmaraj and resident of Palaverikadu village in Madukkur union, consumed poison this evening and was admitted to a private hospital in Pattukottai where he died a few hours later.

Sources said that Aadhi had studied up to Plus Two. Aadhi, in the suicide note purportedly written by him, stated that Jayalalithaa had implemented various schemes for the welfare of poor people. After the demise of Jayalalithaa, there is no one else to provide such schemes for the people, and he did not want to live in a world sans Jayalalithaa.

Madukkur police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
