A 24-year-old youth, son of a farmer, committed suicide by consuming liquor laced with pesticide near Thiruvaiyaru.

Aravind, a habitual drunkard, had picked up a quarrel with his mother last night for not preparing non-vegetarian food for dinner. His father Aasaithambi who is also the panchayat secretary in AIADMK, owned 15 acres of agriculture land in Pulimathur village besides another seven acres of agriculture land in Ayimpathumel Nagaram village with bore-well facilities in both places.

Aravind had returned home drunk on Thursday at 10 p.m. and picked up a quarrel with his mother, following which his parents reprimanded him.

Upset over this, Aravind consumed liquor laced with pesticide. He was admitted to Thanjavur Medical College Hospital where he died this morning.
