BOOKS Warehouse Sale at HaperCollins
Publishing house HarperCollins is holding a sale at its Faridabad warehouse during which paperbacks will be sold for Rs 25 each, hardbound titles for Rs 50 each and coffee table books and collector’s editions for Rs 100. EXHIBITION ‘Kumarajiva: Philosopher and Seer’ at India International Centre

Curated by Buddhist scholar Shashibala, this exhibition comprises texts, manuscripts and pen and ink drawings related to fourth-century Indo-Chinese Buddhist monk Kumarajiva, known for his translations of Buddhist texts from Sanskrit to Chinese.

FOOD & DRINK Delhi Summer Festival at Dilli Haat Janakpuri
Formerly known as the Mango Festival, this event will feature stalls selling mangoes as well as drinks, frozen yoghurt, gelato, sorbets and condiments made from them. Other attractions and activities include a beer garden and a mango eating competition. The entry fee is Rs 10 per person; free entry for children below the age of ten. FILM The Danish Girl at the American Centre

To mark Gay Pride Month, the American Centre will screen director Tom Hooper’s 2015 film, which is loosely based on the lives of the nineteenth-century Danish artist couple Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Elbe was one of the first transsexuals to undergo sex change surgery. Entry, which requires the presentation of a photo ID, is via an invitation, which you can request by emailing [email protected]. Paranjoy Guha-Thakurta, author and editor of the Economic and Political Weekly; Nikhil Dey, activist and convenor of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information; and journalist and commentator Neerja Chowdhury will discuss journalist and academic Vipul Mudgal’s recently-released book Claiming India From Below: Activism and Democratic Transformation. Punjabi Sufi music singing siblings Puranchand and Pyarelal Wadali, better known as the Wadali Brothers, will perform. The duo, known for their renditions of popular compositions such as Tere Ishq Nachaya and Tu Mane Ya Na Mane, will be joined in this concert by Puranchand Wadali’s son Lakhwinder.
