14 places to be renamed after Atal Bihari Vajpayee: Iconic Hazratganj crossing, Sabarmati Ghat in the list

Everyone has been finding their own ways to honour veteran leader Vajpayee after he breathed his last on August 16.

Consequently, several state governments, municipal corporations and leaders — with the Centre’s nod — have decided to rechristen names of several sites in their areas of power to pay a tribute to the late politician.

7 PLACES TO BE RENAMED AFTER AB VAJPAYEE IN JHARKHAND

Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar in November 2000 when Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister

In honour of the BJP leader, the Jharkhand government has decided to rename several institutes and sites in the state

The Jharkhand cabinet was chaired by CM Raghubar Das and met on August 24

They decided the following 7 rechristening of places in the state:

1.Under IT and Governance Dept, it has been decided to rename the ‘Jharkhand Innovation Lab’ as Atal Innovation Lab.

2.It also decided to name the under-construction Convention Centre, Ranchi (under Urban Development and Housing Dept) as Atal Convention Centre, according to an official release — reported by PTI.

3.Professional College Jamshedpur, functioning under Higher Technical Education and Skill Department, has been renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Professional College, Jamshedpur.

4.The Cabinet also decided to recommend to the Centre to name the under-construction airport (under the Transport Dept, Jharkhand and Civil Aviation) at Deoghar as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Airport.

5.Under the Health Care and Family Welfare Department, Medical College Palamu will be renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical College, Palamu.

6.Under Transport (Civil Aviation) Dept, Jharkhand and Shipping Ministry, Govt of India, Sahibganj Harbour will be renamed as Atal Bihari Vajpayee Harbour Sahibganj.

Further, it has been decided to recommend to the Centre to name the four-lane bridge over the Ganga in Sahibganj as Sidho-Kanu bridge.

7.The 8-lane road from GOI Building to Kako Math in Dhanbad district will be named as Atal Marg. It is of importance to know that the 20-kilometre long stretch worth 413 crore will be constructed in collaboration with the World Bank.

7 OTHER SITES TO BE RENAMED AFTER ATAL BIHARI

In New Delhi

According to reports, a few North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) councillors sent a proposal to the mayor for renaming the historic Ramlila Maidan in the national capital after the late prime minister.

People gathered at the iconic Ramlila Maidan on Anna Hazare’s fast in 2011.
Although NDMC has denied any such proposal, if media reports are correct and these authorities have their way, the famous ground and in Delhi would be renamed after Vajpayee.

Apart from this, a proposal to change the name of the largest hospital under NDMC, Hindu Rao Hospital/ North DMC Medical College, has also been pushed forward by councillors.

A final decision in this regard will be taken after another meeting of the corporation.

In Uttar Pradesh

Previously, UP’s Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) members announced the renaming of the iconic Hazratganj crossing after AB Vajpayee.

LMC has also decided to set up a huge park in the honour of the former prime minister.

In Gujarat

In Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that archetype Sabarmati Ghat will be named after Atal ji and will be hence named as ‘Atal Ghat’.

In Mauritius

At the 11th World Hindi Conference in Mauritius, the country’s Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth announced that the ‘Cyber Tower’ which was set up with the help of Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led Indian government will now be named after him.

In Haryana

Ambala city’s MLA Aseem Goel has also announced that the planetarium, which is to be constructed at Bal Bhawan in the city, will be named after late prime minister Atal Bihari.

In Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh too announced that the upcoming capital of Chhattisgarh, Naya Raipur, will be known as Atal Nagar as a mark of respect to Vajpayee.
