As earlier planned, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-UG (NEETUG) might not be conducted twice from the next year onwards i.e., 2019.

However, this isn’t confirmed — the HRD ministry is still likely to take a final decision by next week.

Previous announcements on JEE Main and NEET

It must be noted that last month, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that the national level engineering and medical entrance examinations — JEE Main and NEET — will be conducted twice a year from 2019 in online mode and the the best score out of the two will be considered for admission.

Earlier in a press conference, Javadekar stated that the newly-formed examination-conducting agency National Testing Agency (NTA) will hold the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main, National Eligibility cum Entrance Examination (NEET), Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) and (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET).

NTA to overtake CBSE

At present, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is responsible for organising JEE Mains and NEET examinations.

“NTA will establish a network of test practice centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam,” a press realase by the HRD ministry said a while ago.

Further, the release added that schools/engineering colleges with computer centres would be identified and kept open on Saturday/Sunday starting from 3rd week of August.
