Coconut oil head massage is almost like a ritual in most Indian households. But did you know that coconut milk too has incredible healing properties? The creamy liquid is a popular alternative for dairy milk despite the fact that it’s not really milk. It is obtained by blending mature coconut flesh with water and then straining the liquid.
Coconut milk is a great source of vitamins such as C, E, B1, B3, B5 and B6 as well as minerals like iron, selenium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous. It has amazing repairing and nourishing properties, and therefore commonly used to treat dry hair, itchy scalp, hair fall problems and tangled hair.
Including coconut milk in your beauty ritual can help a great deal in keeping your hair healthy and nourished. Here are four easy ways to use coconut milk –
1. Hair conditioner
Does your hair look dry and dull? Take 1 small bowl of coconut milk and apply it on your hair by using a hair brush. Make sure you divide your hair into various sections, and apply coconut milk from the root to the tip. Leave it for 15 minutes before rinsing your hair gently with lukewarm water. You can also massage your scalp everyday using a little coconut milk. Coconut milk contains healthy fatty acids that make it an excellent hair nourishing agent.
2. Instant way to untangle your hair
Tangled hair is a nightmare. For those who have long hair, this is a common problem. Take thick coconut milk and apply it on your hair from root to tip. Flip your hair over by bending down and apply it generously on the inner sides too. Then try running a comb through your hair and you will see the difference.
3. Coconut milk and lavender oil for hair growth
Almost everyone suffers from hair fall time to time. To keep hair fall at bay and promote hair growth, take equal quantities of coconut milk and water and add 2-3 drops of lavender essential oil to it. Apply on the scalp and massage gently. Let it sit for one to two hours before rinsing. Do it once every week to notice a difference. Various studies have shown that both lavender essential oil and coconut milk are great agents for hair growth as they help in boosting blood circulation.
4. Nourishing hair mask
Most of us don’t bother to apply hair masks thinking oil massage, shampoo and conditioner are enough to meet all our beauty requirements. But it is important to treat your hair to some extra nourishing by applying hair masks. Take half a cup amla powder, one cup coconut milk and add two to three drops of rosemary essential oil. Mix well and then apply it evenly on your hair. Let it sit for 30 minutes before your rinse your hair.
