Social media calls for justice in rape and murder of Hyd doctor

Calls for justice grow stronger for veterinarian, Dr Priyanka Reddy on social media. Political leaders and celebrities also urge upon the law enforcement and judiciary to ensure speedy justice to the doctor who was a victim to rape and a gory murder in Hyderabad.

The 26-year-old was returning home to Shamshabad from a skin clinic in Gachibowli, Hyderabad. She usually parked her scooter at the Shamshabad Toll Plaza and took a cab to Gachibowli. On 27.11.2019, got to the toll plaza to take her scooter, she found her back tyre was flat.

While two lorry drivers volunteered to help her, she grew suspicious and refused help. She Called her sister at once and informed her about this, she also told her that she was getting scared. About 45 mins later, when her sister called to check on her at 9:45pm, her phone was switched off. Her family rushed to the spot. They filed a missing person complaint at the Shamshabad Police station when they could not find her.

On 28.11.2019, around 7:00pm, her charred body was found under an underpass in the National Highway in Chatanpally village. She was identified by her family on seeing a locket that she had been wearing. The police have taken into custody one lorry driver and two other persons near Anantapur district and the other one cleaner as prime suspects.

This tragic incident has reignited the question of woman’s safety in India after the Nirbhaya case. Following which, the netizens have once again taken to the social media platform to help seek justice with the hashtags #RIPPriyankaReddy and #JusticeForPriyankaReddy trending in Twitter. ” It feels like there are wolves on the street who are just waiting to pounce on a woman. The culprits should be arrested soon and hanged, if found guilty ” says Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of National Commision for woman according to ANI.

Political leaders and cinema artists have condemned such ghastly acts demanding justice while tagging the Telangana CMO and Telangana DGP. Even the netizens have been expressing their remorse and disappointment.

Raja Singh, a member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, expressed his anger and sadness over the incident.

Ratna Prabha, Former Chief Secretary of the Government of Karnataka, demanded a campaign for safer India.

Saina Nehwal, Olympic athlete, tweeted that she was ashamed of this incident.

Keerthi Suresh expressed concerns and demanded justice for the 26-year-old veterinarian with a letter stating that she was speechless and that the psychopaths need to be hunted down and punished.
