Held for hacking infant and making rape bid on mother

Kochi: A drunkard Ayub, 40, was arrested for hacking an infant while trying to rape the child’s mother Kanyakumari at Manjeri in Malappuram district last night.

The nine-month-old child suffered injuries on his leg, police said. The infant was rushed to Manjeri Medical College where doctors attended to the injuries.and discharged him, police said. The woman and her husband went to the police station to register a complaint against Ayub but the police refused to lodge a complaint.

Later, Youth Congress leader Akbar Meenayi alerted Childline which directed the police to register an FIR. The Childline suggested that the family entrust the child to it and is waiting for a reply.
