Noon meal workers stage protest

Noon meal employees staged a statewide ‘road roko’ agitation to highlight their six-point charter of demands in front of district collectorateson Tuesday.

Tamil city police removed 95 of the employees and let them off by evening. Tamil Nadu Noon Meal Employees Association sources said their demands included time-bound pay scale for noon-meal coordinators, cooks and assistants, a pension of Rs 9,000 a month, Rs 5 per student as food subsidy and 270 days maternity leave for women employees. All of them were let off in the evening.

In Namakkal, the police removed 18-noon meal employees when they attempted to block buses on Park Road.
