A sit-in protest on the Devanga Arts College premises demanding the salary for the month of September was held. Over 150 teaching and non-teaching staff took part in the protest which began at 5 pm and continued till late in the evening.

“The teaching and non-teaching staff under the aided programme and also under the self-financing programme have begun the protest. With no salary disbursed since September and no hope for the salary for October, the staff are agitated. The staff members also need to meet the deepavali expenses,” Principal S Pandiarajan said.

The staff members had been ‘waiting patiently’ till the internal examinations got over, he added.

Salary was not disbursed as secretary Ramasamy was not allowed to continue in the post by the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court.

“The Director of Collegiate Education is to issue an order giving powers of the secretary to the Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education for operating the college bank accounts. If that is done, the salary can be disbursed,” he added.
