Fitbit’s first true smartwatch, aka the Fitbit Ionic, is finally coming to India. The Fitbit Ionic is also Fitbit’s most expensive fitness and activity tracking device to date, bringing the company in line with honchos like Apple, Garmin and even Samsung. In India, the Fitbit Ionic, will cost buyers Rs 22,990 and it will be available for buying from February across major retail partners like Reliance Digital, Croma, Helios and online partners in India. It will be available in as many as three colour options: silver gray tracker and clasp with blue gray band, smoke gray tracker and clasp with charcoal band, or burnt orange tracker and clasp with slate blue band.

Fitbit is also launching the Fitbit Flyer wireless headphones and the Fitbit Aria 2 Wi-Fi Smart Scale in India alongside the Fitbit Ionic. Both the Aria 2 and the Flyer will cost buyers Rs 9,990 and will be available for buying from the same sales channels as the Ionic.

The Fitbit Ionic is of course the King in the North among Fitbit’s newly launched portfolio. Follow up to the Fitbit Blaze, the Fitbit Ionic, may look a lot like its supposed predecessor, but on the inside it’s nothing like it. It’s feature packed to the brim which is why it’s being marketed as Fitbit’s first true smartwatch. All those preceding the Ionic were mere fitness and activity trackers even though the Blaze came dangerously close to mimicking a smartwatch experience.

The biggest USP of the Fitness Ionic, according to Fitbit, is its Fitness OS software and Fitbit App Gallery that will allow users to download third-party apps and watch faces on to the Fitbit Ionic. This will be a first for any Fitbit product. The biggest draw will be that the Fitness OS and Fitbit App Gallery will allow users to directly download and install an app on the Ionic without having them to download and install them on their smartphone.

The Fitbit Ionic isn’t just about the software and the app store. It comes with all the sensors that one would expect from a high-end smartwatch these days. But more importantly, it comes with GPS, is 5ATM-certified for water-resistance (the Ionic is swim-proof), and boasts of up to 5-day of battery life on single charge.
