Lack of female staff at Tilak Vihar police post in west Delhi gave a chance to a 17-year-old helpless girl to commit suicide inside the police post in the wee hours of Sunday. Delhi Police have now suspended two cops and have sent two more personnel to district lines for not performing their duties properly due to which that girl found a chance to kill herself.

Victim Nikita (name changed) was in class 12 had a relationship with 21-year-old Happy Singh who lives in same neighbourhood. The duo wanted to get married but her age didnt allow them to tie the knot. According to her family, Singhs family was pressurising them to allow the duo to get married despite knowing that its illegal to marry minor girl.

In last few months, both the families indulged into physical fights with at least four times, one of the neighbour requesting anonymity told MAIL TODAY. On Saturday, Nikita went missing.

After finding her absconding around 10 pm, her family approached Singhs family believing that she must be at their residence. But learning that she and Singh both were not present there, they became furious and had a scuffle. Both the families indulged into a manhandling, leaving five of them injured. DCP (west) Vijay Kumar said the police received a call at 10.30 pm on Saturday regarding a fight between two families over their missing children.

We were informed that the girl and boy, whose age was 21 years, disappeared together. Around 2.30 am, the girl came to the police station and said she doesnt want to live at home as she was slapped by her mother for talking to the boy. She gave this to us in writing, said the DCP.

Around 1 am, Nikita’s family received a call from Tilak Vihar police post, informing that their daughter is in the police post. Her parents were summoned by the police. After reaching the police station, they told cops that Nikita was kidnapped by Singh and later released.

Her family demanded action against the Singh’s. They also alleged that they have a threat from his family. However, Nikita who was sitting in the investigation room with a female constable gave a written statement saying her parents have slapped her and she does not wish to stay with them.

After leaving the house in the evening, she went to gurdwara and also claimed that her boyfriend was unaware about her location, police said.

Receiving her request of not returning home, the officials have decided to send her to Nari Niketan till she becomes an adult. By the time, her documentation work was being conducted, Singh’s family approached the police post and a midnight drama began.

Both the families started beating each other. As the family members included women as well, so the female constable who was present with the girl also went out to control. In the meantime, Nikita locked the room from inside and hanged herself from the ceiling fan using her dupatta.

Finding the door bolted from inside, the cops broke it open. They found her hanging from the ceiling fan.
