Fuel prices were once again hiked on Friday, marking the 13th straight day of upward revision in the rates of petrol and diesel.

Petrol price has been increased by 56 paise per litre while diesel rates have been increased by 63 paise.

Both petrol and diesel rates have been hiked by over Rs 7 in the past 13 days of revision by oil marketing companies (OMCs).

A litre of petrol in Delhi now costs Rs 78.37 while diesel price has gone up to Rs 77.06. In Mumbai, petrol price has been increased to Rs 85.21 per litre while diesel is retailing at Rs 74.93.

Jaipur in Rajasthan has the highest retail price for petrol at Rs 85.58 per litre. Petrol is selling at over Rs 80 per litre in other cities like Patna, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.

It may be noted that people of Jaipur are also paying the highest rate for diesel across the country at Rs 78.09 per litre. Diesel price is the second-highest in the national capital at over Rs 77 per litre.

People in Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar are paying the third-highest rate for diesel at just over Rs 75 per litre.

The daily revision in fuel price since June 7 comes after a 82-day gap due to the coronavirus lockdown. However, the sharp rise in fuel price has faced criticism from not only public but also opposition leaders.

Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi recently wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged him to limit fuel prices as it is further pressuring citizens during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
